JESUS IS THE ROCK | Luke 6 46-48 Parable

The large immovable rock that your foundation and your house should be built on. Jesus said  “Everyone who comes to me and hears my words and does them, I will show you what he is like: he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built.”(Luke 6:47-48) Jesus is a FIRM rock! When disaster strikes, the house built on Jesus will not crumble.

Earlier in the passage, Jesus said “Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you?”(Luke 6:46). How can we say "we trust" and not follow his commands? A soldier ignoring the orders of his commanding officer is not much of a soldier. Ignoring your employer's instructions will get you fired. And a servant ignoring the orders of a king will get killed. There is grace given to us but that does not mean we ignore God's commands (Romans 6:1-2, 1 John 2:4-6). If he has asked us to do something, it ought to get done. We do it out of love and respect, and it honestly should not be a burden to us (John 14:15, 1 John 5:3). You say you believe in Jesus and yet do the opposite of his commands. If that’s you, reevaluate your “relationship” with God and truly come to him in obedience. You will have a house built on true stability. Trust in Christ, he’s the Rock we build our foundation on. Jesus has given us the perfect blueprint, we just need to follow the plans of the architect. (John 1:1-5, Colossians 1:16-17)

According to the historical accounts of the Bible, Jesus came with a message promising eternal life through faith in him (John 3:16, John 11:25, Galatians 3:26). He didn’t just claim but showed us what a life of following God looks like. He lead by example through instruction and action. He wasn’t a philosopher, guru, or just a prophet, but he claimed to be the only son of God. He said that he is the ONLY way to God and that by faith in him, you will receive eternal life. It’s not about believing that he lived here on earth but believing in his life, death, burial, and resurrection, understanding that through his death on the cross, his blood paid the price for our sins. This faith is a belief in who he is, the words he spoke, and the sacrifice he made for you. It’s not enough to just intellectually believe, belief is hearing and obeying (John 3:36). It’s putting your FULL trust in the truth of Jesus. How can you say you believe someone and yet do the opposite, that’s not belief, that’s unbelief. Put your trust in Jesus, God's son. Why? Because he is God, and the words he spoke are true and lead to eternal life. There’s no way possible that someone would save my life and I not give up everything to repay that person. Jesus is not a person, He is God, He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).
